In this first course in the MSSL program, an MSSL candidate develops the ability to examine and transfer beliefs and values, leadership theories, and educational research into policy and best practice for all students and adults. Candidates study a number of topics related to leadership and building administration, including the following: the importance of developing a mission supported by values and beliefs, the process of school improvement, time management and organization, best practices of communication and collaboration, and district and societal expectations.

Participants are introduced to the program standards provided by KSDE in preparation for the licensing examination later in the program.

MSL 5010 must be completed prior to enrollment in any other school leadership course.
