Political sociology is the study of the relationships between society and politics. Students will become familiar with the ways in which sociologists study the relationship between social structures and social interactions and politics. Topics studied include power, elite formations, political movements, and political culture. The course will consider a number of accounts (qualitative, quantitative, historical, and comparative) of social life in order to uncover the political nature of society and human interaction. Emphasis is placed on student applications of these frameworks and the development of diverse approaches to understanding political processes. (Cross listed as PS 410.)

Prerequisites: One course at the 200 level in Sociology. Students may find it helpful to have completed SO 274 (Social Research Methods).
