Students explore world fiction in the age of global English. The focus of study will be how contemporary literature in English has been reshaped by globalization. Emphasis will be placed on literary, cultural, and human significance of selected works of the Western and non-Western literary traditions to promote understanding of works in their cultural/historical contexts.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  • To critically read and analyze representative texts of world fiction
  • To explore the history and development of world fiction, its themes, and its literary techniques.
  • To consider how global perspectives on literary texts enrich contemporary dialogues and hybridity in the literary arts, including genres of novel, short story, and film.
  • To consider humanities and social sciences dimensions of world fiction in philosophy, theology, ethics, social concerns and psychology
  • To approach global literary experiences from an inclusive perspective.
  • To develop analytical communication and research skills through in-depth research
